Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2 November 2026

🐾 The short version: Snootz doesn’t collect, store or share any of your personal data. Everything stays on your phone.

Snootz is made by Martin Garnett (“we” and “us” in this policy). This policy covers the Snootz app for iPhone and Android, and this website.

What the app accesses, and why

  • Camera: to show the viewfinder and take photos of your pet when you press the shutter.
  • Microphone: only while you’re recording your own sound on the “Record a sound” screen. The app never listens at any other time.
  • Photos: to save the photos you take to your photo library. When you delete a photo in Snootz, it’s deleted from your photo library too, once you confirm. On iPhone, this needs full access to your photos, which the app asks for the first time you delete one. With that access, Snootz also checks which of its own photos you’ve since deleted in the Photos app, so they disappear from Snootz too. Snootz never looks at, copies or uploads any other photos.

Each of these is optional. You can turn them on or off at any time in your phone’s Settings. Without one, only the feature that needs it stops working.

What we collect

Nothing from the app. Snootz has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and the app never connects to the internet. We have no servers that receive your photos, recordings or anything else. This website counts visits anonymously, as described under “This website” below.

Data on your device

These are stored in the app’s private storage on your phone, and nobody else can get to them:

  • a copy of each photo you take, so the app can show them in its gallery
  • the sounds you record, with the names, emoji and colours you give them
  • which sounds are on your camera buttons

Deleting a photo or a sound in the app removes it. Deleting the app removes all of it. Photos already saved to your photo library stay there until you delete them.

Sharing

If you tap Share on a photo, your phone’s share sheet opens and the photo goes only where you choose. What happens to it after that is covered by the privacy policy of the app or service you share it with.

Apple and Google

You download Snootz from the App Store or Google Play, so Apple or Google handles your purchases under their own privacy policies. If you’ve allowed it in your phone’s settings, they may also send us anonymous crash reports, which we use only to fix bugs.

This website

This website is hosted by Vercel, whose servers keep short-lived technical logs (such as IP addresses) to run the site and keep it secure. Its font is served from this website, so your browser doesn’t connect to anyone else to load it.

We use Vercel Web Analytics to count visits, so we know which pages people find useful. For each page you view, it records the page’s address, the site you came from, your rough location (country, region and city), and your type of device, operating system and browser. It uses no cookies and stores nothing on your device. Instead of identifying you, it tells visits apart using a code made from your request that resets every day, so you can’t be followed from one day to the next or across other websites. We only see totals, never individual visitors. You can read more in Vercel’s analytics privacy policy.

The download page looks at the kind of device and browser you’re using (your browser’s “user agent”) to send you to the right app store. It’s used only for that, and we don’t store it.

Emailing us

If you email us, we use your email address and message only to reply to you, and we don’t share them with anyone.

Children

Snootz doesn’t collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this ever changes, we’ll update this page and the date above before releasing an app update that changes it.
